WHY VOLUNTEER AT ASME?

Volunteers are the lifeblood of ASME.  By volunteering with ASME, you can take great satisfaction knowing that you play an important role in reaching for our vision of contributing to the well-being of humankind. Volunteering offers many personal benefits as well; filling a leadership role or working on a project is a great way to:

• Gain professional exposure and leadership experience
• Expand your knowledge of ASME and the benefits membership offers
• Develop skills in areas such as public speaking, leadership development, and interacting with local, state and federal governments
• Connect with others in your profession

LOCAL:

• Join your local section - http://districts.asme.org/Locate.htm and get involved.
• Start pre-college/secondary school STEM programs with your section:
  • FIRST (start or mentor an ASME team at a local middle or high school)
  • Girl Scouts – conduct workshops on engineering challenges
  • JETS—be a mentor or adopt a JETS high school

• Celebrate your profession—organize an EWeek activity: www.eweek.org
• Honor the past! Get involved with ASME’s History & Heritage program: www.asme.org/Communities/History/

DISTRICT:

• Talk to your District Leader (visit http://districts.asme.org/communities.htm#DISTRICTS for contact information for District Leaders).
• Join District Operating Board
• Volunteer for student conferences (contact your District leader)
• Organize events (job fairs, tours, social events, etc.)
• Judge student competitions
