To foster the learning and growth of ASME leaders, the VOLT Academy supports a variety of training events for ASME volunteers along all steps of the ASME Leadership Path, providing:
- Guidance in establishing a goal-focused curriculum
- Resources for developing and facilitating high-quality training
- Development and implementation of pre- and post-event evaluations
- Helpful web-based resources (e.g. planning templates)
Student Leadership Seminars (SLS) - a series of specially designed events whose objective is to provide student section officers and volunteers with the tools and skills they need to run their sections more effectively. VOLT maintains the SLS Presentation Library, with presentations from current and past SLSs along with a variety of helpful resources. The SLS provides:
- Knowledge of ASME's organization and structure to help students understand the importance of heir role in the society
- Leadership and management tools to enable students to run their sections
- Opportunities for students to network with peers from other universities
Leadership Training Conference (LTC) - a Society-wide event for volunteer leaders, whose purpose is to provide ASME members soon to become unit leaders and key committee personnel with an opportunity to develop their leadership knowledge and skills, share best practices, form partnerships with other units, and focus on critical issues important to the success of the Society. The LTC provides:
- First time unit leader workshop - basic organizational operations and tools
- Advanced Leadership Forum - intermediate information is provided for more experienced volunteer leaders
- An overview of the Society's organization, activities and resources
- Information and methods to help volunteers succeed in leading an ASME unit
- An opportunity to network with other leaders and ASME Staff and
- A forum for interchange of ideas and development of program plans
Leadership Topic Workshops at the ASME Annual Meeting and Congress
Officer-Elect Orientation - a half-day event held during Congress for incoming Society officers, addressing topics such as roles and responsibilities of service as an ASME officer, legal and financial issues, and the role of ASME leaders.
Nominating Committee Orientation - a 2 hour webcast held in the spring of each year to prepare Nominating Committee members for their important role in selecting the senior Society leadership.
Board of Governors-elect Orientation - A day-long event typically held at ASME's headquarters to familiarize incoming board members with the overall ASME organization, leadership at the board level and the legal and fiduciary responsibilities that accompany that service.
Sector Orientation Development - Assistance to senior leadership in the individual sectors in identifying goals and developing plans and resources to help their leaders function most effectively in their positions.
Trainers Resources - to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum and content of all training and orientation, VOLT maintains an online library of trainer resources. |
