Position Description :
1. Two Members-at-Large serve on the Board of Directors of the Strategic Management Sector, which is responsible for furthering the vision and mission of the Sector:
Vision: To position ASME to be the standard among all professional organizations for knowledge capture, advocacy and innovation.
Mission: • To identify issues, opportunities, best practices and trends with potential for addressing ASME’s current and emerging strategic goals.
• As directed by the Board of Governors and in collaboration with other Society units, to leverage the intellectual property, skills and competencies of ASME to plan, develop and implement strategic initiatives consistent with ASME's strategic priorities.
• To provide a home for ideas and process for innovation of new market-focused products and services that create value for members or that represent new revenue streams for the Society, while advancing the art and practice of engineering.
• To keep ASME's stakeholders informed and engaged in matters of public policy through its interactions with government entities and to provide guidance in the development of sound technical policy.
• To provide a voice for industry within ASME
2. The Members-at-Large will chair one of two standing committees of the Board:
Committee on Honors and Awards, which shall be responsible for certificates of appreciation, assisting in the identification of candidates for the Dedicated Service Award and Fellow nominations.
Committee on Sector Operations, which shall be responsible for review and making recommendations to the SMBOD on the Assignment of Duties, By-laws and Operation Guide. In addition, this Committee shall develop nominations for open Sector positions and appointments within and outside of ASME for consideration at SMBOD nominating sessions.
3. The Members-at-large shall serve one-year terms beginning at the Summer Annual Meeting, and may be re-appointed for up to three terms.
The term for this position is June 2010 - June 2011. |
