Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Experience :
Boston University Engineers Without Borders is looking for your help. In order for the team to travel this summer, EWB-USA stipulates that all travel must include a professional mentor who has a Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
Currently, the Boston University EWB-USA chapter is working on a water project, to design a slow sand filter of the town of Chirimoto, Peru. Work on the prototype of the design has begun; however, the plan is to scale it to serve the specific community of Chirimoto, Peru, which includes 500 people.
Per EWB-USA guidelines, for the entirety of this implementation trip, which is currently planned for this summer, the Chapter team must be under supervision of a P.E. The dates scheduled for travel are as follows: May 25-June 25 and Aug. 4-25, 2009.
It is not necessary for the engineer-mentor to speak Spanish! Rather, you must be motivated, willing to spend two months this summer living in a small village in rural Peru. Keep in mind as well that the community has no clean water (as we are providing), no electricity, and is located at an altitude of ~2000m in the Andes. BU alumni strongly encouraged!
EWB-BU can subsidize the costs of transportation to and from Peru. For more info: http://people.bu.edu/ewbexec/index.html
So if you have a P.E. in civil or mechanical engineering and are ready for an adventure and looking for a meaningful way to serve a developing community and help make a world of difference in improving people’s day to day lives, feel free to contact us! |
